Trekking to Machu Picchu for the Cyrille Regis Legacy Trust

Oct 24, 2022

Last week, our Trust Chair, Julia finally set off on a once-in-a-lifetime trip, alongside Cyrille’s sister Denise and their friend Anette Taggart to Peru!

After being delayed for three years due to the pandemic, they’re off to tick one of the New Seven Wonders of The World off their bucket list as they trek 5 days, 26 miles and up to an altitude of 4,500 metres to the ancient lost city of Machu Picchu.

Nestled deep in the Andes, above the Urubamba River valley, Machu Picchu is an Incan citadel built in the 15th century and is recognisable for its sophisticated dry-stone walls and intricate carvings.

The tough trek through turbulent terrain and steep slopes is to raise money for our charity’s Strike A Trust Programme. The money raised will help to support the next cohort of young people who benefit from mentoring, workshops, activities and events designed to build confidence and improve their futures.

Last week, the trio were invited to a West Bromwich Albion FC match where they spent time with the Directors of Blackthorns Accountants who have generously donated £2,000 for the fundraiser.
