Strike a Change documentary launched ahead of Commonwealth Games

Jul 23, 2022

With the Commonwealth Games just days away, we’re delighted to share a documentary that showcases our Strike a Change mentoring programme and the impact its having for young people across the West Midlands.

The documentary features six students from the mentoring programme who speak to their parents or a member of the community from a Commonwealth country. The students learn about their cultural background as well as what the Commonwealth and the Games mean to them.

The documentary will contribute to the legacy of the Commonwealth in the region and aims to show young people that they can dream big, aim high and importantly, overcome obstacles if they put their mind to it.

The Strike a Change mentoring programme is the inaugural initiative of the Cyrille Regis Legacy Trust and is set up by members of Cyrille’s family to continue the great community work he was involved in. Strike a Change is a unique collaboration between all six West Midlands Football Club Foundations and is targeted at young people who are considered disengaged in school or within their community.

Last month, part of the film was shown on BBC Midlands Today to celebrate Windrush Day with the full film being released across social media and on the six West Midlands Football Foundation websites on 23rd July 2022.
