A Little Regis Family History

My father, Robert, originated from the picturesque island of St. Lucia. He eventually moved to the French Caribbean islands of Guiana, settled in Maripasoula and married my mom, the statuesque Mathilde, aka Gladys.
Between 1962 and 1963 mom and dad embarked on a new journey to England. My father travelled to England on his own in 1962 to set up a home so the rest of us could join him in London the following year. My sister Nila, brother Imbert and I had to learn quickly to adjust to the harsh climate and realities of a British way of life in the 60's. A few years later the family was complete with the arrival of my younger sister Denise and my brother David, who went on to play for Notts County.
Moving from primary school: Kensal Rise, to secondary school: Cardinal Hinsley RC, Harlesden, opened up a whole range of sport that I couldn't wait to get involved with, but football of course was at the heart of all my spent energy. The game became a passion in my life that I never thought would provide me with a career and so many enjoyable memories.
I spent many great years playing non-league and Sunday League football within the Regents Park and Barnet Sunday Leagues, moving on to play for Molesey FC and Hayes FC in the Isthmian league. At the same time I was training to be an electrician. Just as I had formally qualified and completed my City & Guilds training, I was spotted by the famous Albion scout, Ronnie Allen, who was instrumental in me signing my first professional playing contract with West Bromwich Albion in 1977.
